Starting solids on the 6th month

We celebrated Tikoy reaching the first half of his year. This breastfeeding mama wasn’t eager about him starting solids (at first, at least). I remember savoring the days when the only food he needed is my milk.

Starting solids means added workload to my endless list of things to do. On the other hand, I know this chapter would be fun! Also, I am blessed to have my Mom help me with the meal planning and preparation.

First on Tikoy’s menu was puréed squash. It was also the first time I used the Avent 4-in-1 Baby Food Maker.

If I am to rate this food maker, it is 3.5 over 5 stars.

Reading the manual for first-time use, I thought it was complicated. I almost decided against using it. When I disassembled it though for cleaning, it was pretty easy. Not that many parts to clean.

Its blades are also doing their job of making purées. I tried using our blender for the squash but it didn’t produce the consistency I desire.

What I don’t like is the downtime. After steaming, you cannot blend immediately. I had to wait 20-30 minutes before blending could work. Aside from that, I had to lessen the contents of the jar or else blending won’t run.

UPDATE: After five months of using this, blending function is already not working. :( So I guess 3 stars na lang. Buti pwede pa rin for steaming.

The price of this machine at SM Department Store was around Php 16k. Parang 12k na lang ata kasi sale. We bought ours in Singapore for less than SGD 200 (less than Php 7k).

I’m not inserting Tikoy’s look when he tried the squash. He kind of cringed but enjoyed eating per se. (Today is Sept 3 and he had squash again. I mixed ample breastmilk and he loved it.)

We got him Anyue’s halfie cake inspired by Johnny Johnny Yes Papa. 💝 Sobrang nag-enjoy akong pumapak ng milk fondant.
